The signal may be valid. The error is asking it to prove too much.

Each signal should inform a bounded decision. It should not be converted into a broader technical, legal, commercial, operating or financial claim without the evidence required for that claim.

    What it may establish

    A publication may document findings under a stated method and set of conditions. A patent filing may document claimed inventive subject matter. These are different records and should not be treated as interchangeable.

    What it does not establish

    Product readiness, ownership clarity, freedom to operate, application fit, commercial demand or a viable route to use.

    Evidence needed next

    Application-specific validation, contributor and rights analysis, relevant specialist review and a defined commercialisation route.

    Licensing, venture formation, development investment or external collaboration.

    What it may establish

    That a mechanism, component or system can perform under stated test conditions.

    What it does not establish

    Repeatability, reliability, integration, safety, manufacturability, supply resilience, cost or scalability.

    Repeated testing, failure analysis, system integration requirements, quality controls and scale-up economics.

    Decision at risk

    Pilot design, product development, supplier commitments or engineering investment.

    Customer or investor interest

    What it may establish

    That the proposition is relevant enough to attract attention, discussion or preliminary evaluation.

    What it does not establish

    Budget availability, procurement readiness, willingness to adopt or pay, investment commitment or a repeatable market.

    Buyer decision criteria, use-case economics, adoption conditions, procurement pathways and documented commitments.

    Decision at risk

    Go-to-market spending, fundraising assumptions, hiring or commercial claims.

    Successful pilot

    What it may establish

    That the solution performed within a defined environment, scope and period.

    What it does not establish

    Repeatable deployment, transferability, serviceability, implementation burden, quality at scale or sustainable unit economics.

    Evidence needed next

    Transfer conditions, operating requirements, quality controls, support burden, deployment economics and repeatability evidence.

    Decision at risk

    Scaling, contracting, infrastructure investment or wider rollout.
